The roots of St. Moritz come from an ancient history; for more than 3.000 years, indeed, the town is known for its thermal springs. In the Middle Ages even the Pope Leo X came here to enjoy the water sources which were rich in iron and carbon dioxide. But it is in 1864 that St. Moritz changes tack, becoming the first European tourist resort where the winter tourism develops as we already know today.

Also for this reason St. Moritz has been chosen twice as home host of the Winter Olympic Games, respectively in 1928 and 1948.
