Desenzano del Garda

Lake Garda tour

Desenzano del Garda is one of the largest towns on Lake Garda and for this reason has a more urban and frenetic side than the others. The large marina is very popular with tourists, as well as the Old Town. Already in the Middle Ages the city of Desenzano, on the southern shore of Lake Garda, had a key role from an economic point of view. It is worth a visit to the ancient Castle of Desenzano, which dominates the city with its crenellated towers.

The Castle was built mainly in the 1000s as a defense against the Hungarians and as a refuge for the population. Over the centuries it has often been the scene of numerous battles, which have contributed significantly to the decline of the fortress.

In Desenzano del Garda there are many places to spend fun and pleasant hours on summer evenings and not only: you can choose between discos, even on the beach like the Golden Beach, or historical discos like Art Club Disco Musical Theater, pubs, disco clubs like the Circus Cafè, pubs and venues for aperitifs like the Teatro Alberti.

During your stay in Desenzano you can wander between sporting and recreational activities: from a game of paddle tennis, to a complete course of sailboat. Or experience a dive in the cool waters of the lake to discover hidden treasures, schools of suggestive fish, wrecks that tell of past eras and mysterious canyons.

Lazise preserves a historic center with a medieval imprint to be visited, which conceal surprises and fascinating architecture of great value.

The mild climate makes the village a pleasant destination for a relaxing weekend at any time of the year, or for long summer and spring holidays in the Lake Garda landscape.

Among the sites to be admired, we certainly suggest a stop to the Venetian Customs, dating back to the ‘300, and to the Scaliger Castle built in the year one thousand.

Not far from the center of Lazise the oil and wine museums definitely deserve a visit: they are historical and gastronomic attractions which show the evolution of the methods and working tools typical of the Garda area.

Lazise boasts also an advantageous position to visit the main amusement parks of Lake Garda and of whole Italy. In its immediate vicinity you will find 10 parks, from Gardaland, CanevaWorld, Natura Viva Park, Sea life, Zoo Safari, Movieland and many others! A real paradise of fun for children and teenagers, but also a moment of leisure and adrenaline for the older ones.

Salò

Salò played an important role in the history of our Republic; it was in fact the capital of Italy during the period of the Italian Social Republic. Today, with its marina, its cathedral, the civic theater and exceptional buildings such as the Martinengo Palace in Barbarano, Salò is one of the leading tourist destinations on Lake Garda.

In Salò the summer comes alive with the music of the various parties and events that alternate along the lakefront and with lively and entertaining evenings organized by the various pubs and clubs.

It is advisable to spend the evening in Salò on Thursday evening during which the shops remain open until late and in the area known as “fossa” the bars, hotels, kiosks and clubs are transformed into meeting places for young and not only.

One of the best cocktail bars not to be missed in Salò is definitely ‘the 24’, a 60’s style little place for a unique experience: all the cocktails offered are very special and worth trying, as an aperitif, for after dinner, non-alcoholic and even hot cocktails as well.

Valeggio sul Mincio

Lake Garda tour

If you want to admire one of the most beautiful towns in Italy, you can’t leave without visiting Valeggio and Borghetto sul Mincio, two villages gathered in the same municipality, small but unique.

Your itinerary in Valeggio sul Mincio can start from one of the symbols of the city, namely the Scaliger Castle; not far from the Scaliger Castle is Villa Sigurtà, built in the XVII century in Palladian style., whereas Adjacent to Villa Sigurtà, and once linked to it, is the Sigurtà garden park, winner of the most beautiful Park Award in Italy in 2013 and the second most beautiful Park in Europe in 2015.

The park is worth a visit especially from the spring when you can admire the first blooms. A myriad of tulips of different qualities bloom between March and April, while in May it is time for irises and roses.

Not far away from Valeggio you can admire the characteristic hamlet of Borghetto, a town where time seems to stand still, with its houses overlooking the Mincio and with its suggestive water mills.

When you come to Valeggio, it is obligatory to try the typical tortellino, called ‘agnolin’, with thin pastry and delicious meat filling, or the rice ‘maridà’, a risotto prepared with beef broth, seasoned in layers with a mixed meat sauce and pieces of cooked ham and cheese, baked and finished with pieces of butter and parmesan.
