Milan and the Lakes

Milan is a city to be discovered, offering attractions for all tastes. In Milan you can visit many museums and monuments, attend theatrical performances, dine in restaurants of all culinary traditions and great chefs, go shopping. But those who are in Milan for the first time, can not fail to go to some places that best represent the city.

The Duomo is the symbol of Milan, with its spiers and late-Gothic architectural forms. Very impressive is the visit to the terraces, which allows on sunny days and clear skies to admire a unique panorama overlooking the whole city.

One of the most important monuments of Milan, of Visconti foundation is the Sforzesco Castle, erected as a defensive stronghold in the second half of 1300. Its events are long and troubled, including demolitions and remakes and the various foreign domains that affected the history from Milan. It owes its name to the Lord of Milan Francesco Sforza, who began its rebuilding on the Visconti foundation.

Between Piazza Duomo and Piazza della Scala you have to make a stop for a while at Vittorio Emanuele Gallery, called the “elegant Milan Lounge” of excellence:  a real pleasure to be walked through without haste, wrapped in the glass and steel dome of its “Ottagono”, accompanied by the charm of its boutiques and trendy cafès.

You can not leave Milan without having gone for shops: Milan is the city of shopping par excellence. In the center of Milan, in the shadow of the Duomo, there are the four most expensive streets of the city: Via Montenapoleonevia Manzonivia della Spiga and Corso Venezia. These four streets form the quadrilateral of fashion: here are the designer boutiques, the design showrooms and the most expensive jewelers, a true paradise for ladies and for fashion addicted!

Lake Como

Milan and the Lakes

Lake Como has been one of the favorite destinations of an exclusive and international tourism for centuries, and today, thanks also to the many stars who stay regularly, the Lario attracts more and more visitors eager to immerse themselves in a glamorous and surreal atmosphere of beauty.

The Lake of Como, with its 410 meters of depth, is the deepest lake in Italyand offers a succession of glimpses reminiscent of the Norwegian fjords. This place boasts the presence of many illustrious people, from Napoleon to Winston Churchill, from Giuseppe Verdi to Alessandro Manzoni, the latter set the first Italian novel “I Promessi Sposi” here.

Difficult to prefer one location rather than another: Lake Como is dotted with wonderful villages, but some of them are real pearls of beauty, a must visit!

Cernobbio is the first village that you will meet coming from Como, this lively country is often mentioned in the newspapers for its guests that include Hollywood stars, internationally renowned singers and entrepreneurs from all over the world to enjoy the beauties of the Lario. In Cernobbio, a walk along its lakeside promenade and in the narrow and characteristic alleys leading to the entrance of Villa D’Este is recommended.

Isola Comacina is the only island of Lake Como and can only be reached by ferry. This picturesque island offers unique views and a quiet surreal atmosphere because for centuries it was totally uninhabited due to a medieval war that razed its homes.

In Tremezzina, a visit to the gardens of Villa Carlotta is not to be missed. Through their styles and geometries they tell the story of European topiary art and give unforgettable emotions thanks to the beauty of millions of flowers and plants which populate them.

Bellagio also called the “Pearl of Lake Como” stands on the promontory that separates the two branches of Lake Como. This village is certainly among the most glamorous and romantic of the Lario, its lakeside is bordered by refined hotels and restaurants, destination of international elite tourism.

You cannot miss during your stay a relaxing boat ride along Lake Como, to admire the breathtaking view overlooking this enchanting place.
